Hi All

So I decided to try and drag my 2002 Defender 110 TD5 out of the audio dark ages by replacing the original LR cassette player with a nice shiny new Clarion radio recently. First problem was the obvious issue of the old ISO style connector on the back of the original radio compared to the new DIN style connectors on the new radio but that was easily overcome by an adapter loom ordered from eBay. Wired it all up, plugged it in and... NOTHING. Couldn't get radio to power up at all. Tried the old head unit back in and it had power so assumed it must be a problem with the eBay loom but on checking it with a multimeter there is power through it etc. So I assumed it must be a dud new radio.

So fast forward about a week and I have returned the Clarion radio and now trying another new Kenwood radio. Tested it in something else first and it is working but try it in the Defender and it refuses to power up either! Try the old radio back in again and now it won't even power up!! Now also noticing the interior light doesn't work either and the wife has reported this morning that the clock hasn't been working for a wee while either...

Starting to loose the plot with it but I've been through the fuses behind the dash and under the seat and there is nothing obviously wrong with any of them that I can see etc. Looking at previous posts on here there are people who have had similar issues and the fault was the large fuses under the seat but they also seemed to have an issue with the hazard lights and traced it to the 60amp fuse feeding the other fuse box whereas my hazard lights still work? Is there something I am missing or am I just being thick??

Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thanks, Alastair

did you change any of the wiring or was this just unplugging the standard fitting and putting something else in?

I was fitting a new radio CD into a mates old Transit horse box the other week and found the old system only had a switched live but the new needed a switched and permenant live before anything would work.
