Hi guys

Would it be possible to hinge the doors and rear door using an internal hinge rather than the standard hinges that are not very secure? I realise that this would involve some fabrication work.

I’m planning a respray so bodywork will be involved. Seems like the right time to do this sort of work.

thanks

Beyond intesive work. Have a look a Tornado Motorasports "Tornado GT" for a clue.

However there are a few firms around that supply security hinges to prevent theft. GORE and myself (however not ready yet due to CV19 (and of course there will be a % donation to LZ)

Then you have Optimil, TMD, DMO and a few others but not quite as secure.

Hi.
External door hinges are one of the defining features of Defender design. There are ways of making them secure which are a lot less work than fabricating internal hinges. As long as the top of the door frame can be pulled out then then the door will never be secure.

this is the problem, without a fundamental redesign the vehicle will never be secure. Doors bend, windows i. With rubber seals, door locks that can be opened with a lolly pop stick. The hinge design is the least of your worries. And all of that is assuming you don’t have a soft top! With things like the below, I really don’t think it is worth the effort. If you are worried look at other ways to secure the hinges, the bespoke versions açai Le mentioned above. Or the basic one of hammering in ball bearings or filing the heads with sealer etc.

I saw somewhere a while back where there is normal door hinges with grease nipples, anyone with any experience?
