Hi

Anyone out there bought their Freelanders from an Independent dealer?

I've been looking at a Td4 in a local dealers, and I've managed to get the dealer down 1K, but that includes £500 exchange for my late father's old car. Can anyone tell me what a good (realistic!) % barter would be and if sounds like a fair knockdown?

I've also seen a Td4 HSE elsewhere, which is in my preferred colour - black. It has 5k less on the clock, is a year younger, and has the additional spec of a sunroof. It's 'showroom' price is 2K more. Is that worth the 2k?

The first one comes with the option of a 3 year warranty from someone called 'Customer Protect', for just over £300 (I haven't visited the seocnd one yet to find out about their warranties). Has anyone heard of them/had any experience with 'Customer Protect"?

Difficult to comment of the discount, all depends if the original price was high or a bargain, many dealers wont discount the price if you are trading in. Definitely a buyers market, especially for a Freelander so haggle hard.

Get a copy of the warranty documentation to see whats covered and to what limit, some will limit each claim to quite a low amount, so you end up paying most of it yourself if the repair is expensive. Or they might put an annual claim limit on or limit the cover to certain items.

Hi

My indecision gets worse... Ok, Ive seen one Td4 SE, a cairns blue one, 28K miles, with black leather interior, heated seats, privacy glass. £12K Possibility of 3 year independent warranty for £300.

Then my local LR dealer gets on the blower - he's got a black 06 Td4, which is my preferred colour, and is offering it for £14k, £3k off the forecourt price - but it has less spec - cream cloth seats, (not heated), but better mileagae - about 6k miles. 1 year LR warranty.

Which is the better deal. Is it worth 2 grand more for my preferred colour and less miles....

As mantamad said - its a buyers market,

Bounce the two dealers off each other. Both ends against the middle so to speak.

Dont forget the FL2 is here and dealers want to get rid of the FL1.

If going for the newer one get every perk going, warranty, breakdown cover, mats, free services, sat nav the works. Haggle hard, dont be afraid to walk away.

Plus if you are going HP then dont forget the extra interest on £2k

Oh what a quandry I used to be indecisive now I just can't make my mind up.
Go for the one that makes the birds sing and the earth move.
See who gives the best warranty.

Yes, indecsion is my middle name. Especially when it comes to spending money. I really don't want to make a mistake, and I've not blown this amount of money on a car before.

I think the black one would probably win it, because it's only 6 months old, as I think I'd still get 2 and half years warranty with LR. I've just got to convince myself my a**e doesn't need heated, leather seats...

go for the best spec un the auto box is a dream, but always get that warrenty, td4 is the best. . . .:)

Hi

So, getting a better spec in navy blue is better than a black (more desirable, they say?), more basic one with less mileage...?

Oh dear, I can feel my head spinning...

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

oh deary me . . .i dunt normally give advice on what to buy as everyones needs are different, if blacks ya colour then so be it. . .but the td4 is nice to drive. . .:) :) :)

If you like the colour of the blue one, I would go for that. Its cheaper to start with and has a better spec which is always easier to sell on and after a while, the mileage difference will be negligible. But if black is the colour for you (and they do look good in black) then go for that.

Its worth looking at the previous threads re warrenties as people have differing opinions on if they are worth it.

Just check whats it covers.

I have a 52 plate and recently extended mine for 2 years. they generaly dont cover wear and tear. (tyres, brake discs, etc) but can cover the electrics, head gasket and manifold, which can be costly items to repair

hope this helps
