Ive got a v8 disco that i want to de-cat, i spoke to craddocks a couple of months ago and a guy told me £55 for the front pipes but they'd be the rangerover classic non cat without sensors and they'd fit, Just called this morning to order them and have been told that my disco should have a 2 bolt fixing instead of the 3 bolt fixing i have from down pipe to mainfold connection he reckond the 2 bolt fixing is the one with cats and the 3 bolt fitting was for non cat so i must have a non land rover system??? it looks to be all original, Can anyone shed any light on it and if i can get front pipes off the shelf without cats/sensors?

you will struggle to find a system to fit the standard one, without buying a full ss system, or cutting and welding in some straight thru pipes

I've had 2 Disco's 3.9V8i and both have three bolts on the manifold. I think the guy is just looking at the picture in the book because that how it appears. The other systems have two down pipes and the CAT system has one (each side). I don't know if the RR will fit but I have been told the Disco 3.5efi fits but doesn't have the lambda sensor holes, so would have to modify some how and the down pipes are the same size as the RR 3.9. Hope this helps regards Steve

All PI engines are three bolt at the manifold. For the non-cat disco the Y pipe is ESR225 (the no. may have changed) it's a bit different in that it's a 2 into 1 pipe from each manifold before entering into the Y config the same as a 3.5RRC.
That's if you are using a genuine part but also there are a few companies on the web that supply non-cat Y pipes.

thanx for the info, so will the non cat y pipe will fit in place of cat y pipe?

I don't know it's not a thing I have done, the rest of the engine is the same, but there are two part numbers for the mid/tail pipe section with cats and without cats so there maybe an issue there, what it would be i don't know.

I dunno if there is any truth to it but I when I was toying with a centre box replacement pipe for my RRC I was talking to a bloke at a land rover breakers and he said there are 3 different Y pipes - Cat, Non-Cat and a generic one or something. I think there are also some differences in Y pipes depending on manual or auto transmission. The differences in the Y pipes is the distance from the "Y" to the connector flange (the one that goes onto the centre box).

Hope that is of some use.

i aint fussed bout sensors, worth a nosey round fer the 3.5

Hi mate, you will need to have the sensors for the engine management system to know the fuel mixture.
I have the same Disco as you and I'm planning to do the same, as I see it I have two options:

1, I have purchased a second hand down pipe with cats from eblag 'cause my o/s cat is rattling so plan to swap down pipes then de-cat the knackered one and try it!

2, Get a non-cat system if it will fit and drill two holes in it and weld two nuts to fit the O2 sensors
Cheers Chris........

Not necessary so. Replace the ECU tune resistor with a non-catalyst one PCR8172 or try a Gulf States one PRC8007 as I believe they don't have cats fitted.

as you are ditching the lamda sensors you will need a non cat tune resister as well
wunt need to on lpg...wil i?
