Hello All,

Whilst on business in Canada Last week I was understandably disturbed to be informed by my Wife at home in Hants that the Police had visited her earlier that morning informing her, although it became patently obvious when she looked, that my D90 TD5 had been stolen from my driveway, taken up the road to a local village and used to steal a Caravan.

The thieves were spotted and followed by Police in Surrey where the thieves realised they were being followed the abandoned my Landy in a lane and escaped in a stolen Subaru with fake plates.

Landy has now been recovered and is awaiting insurance assessment but in sum all locks are F**ked and the steering lock and column has been extensively remodeled. Luckily, although muddy, the contents of the vehicle was unharmed and unmoved - possibly as a result of them being caught on the hop.

I consider myself lucky but it raises a few points worth noting.

- If my vehicle hadn't been so easy to start - how far would the thieves have gone to find the keys?

- The Police, for understandable reasons, are interested in following these thieves to their origin, this potentially may compromise on the safe return of any property as the ends may justify the means.

- In future I intend to remove the towing ball completely unless I intend to tow something.

- Also considering fitting an isolator switch somewhere difficult to discover.

Other ideas, comments or observations gratefully recieved.

only considered?? first call with any landy they are so easily and frequently stolen...

i use a full metal jacket pedal lock (bulky but good) steering lock and 2 switches

cant stop em but can make the next landy down the road an easier option

cheers steve

No idea, but i will endeavor to find out. Think it was one already under control of our pikey friends as it was operating under false plates.

Living and learning. Guess thats all part of the experience.

I was thinking of fitting an isolator that cuts out the ECU. Any other suggestions - battery being the most obvious I suppose.

Strange to say that I am glad they broke into the landy rather than getting into my house while missus was on her own.

If you could find out and pm it to me that'd be great. I have a feeling that I already know the answer.

i have a 90 that will soon be on the road, and i will be fitting a "tap" in the fuel line, also two switches that will a/ interupt the positive feed to the fuel gauge .... hence showing empty on the fuel gauge, and b/ supplying a positive feed to the orange "reserve" light .... hopefully if some T**t tries to steal it, it will appear to run out of fuel within a few yards.. !

Sounds good but they run for a while with the fuel in the filter.
