Hi, I just bought a D2 to use as a tow vehicle while I finish a D90 rebuild. Initial jobs were replacing a leaking steering pump and a rear exhaust. It’s had a rear spring conversion and new shocks all round fairly recently
by the looks of it. On start up I get 4 to 6 sharp on/off clunking sounds from under the vehicle. Sounds central to rear. Any ideas to a cause? Initial thoughts were perhaps ACE system related. Cheers.

Could it be the exhaust hitting the chassis or gearbox?

Hi Steve and thanks for your suggestion. No, its not the exhaust. Its a definite on / off sound. Just wondering if its something to do with the Wabco ACE pump initialising on start up, or not, as the case may be.

My ace was deleted before I bought it, so unsure if they're supposed to make any noise. You could listen or touch the valve block on the offside chassis under the drivers door area (where the 8 pipes go into) when you start it up. Can't think of anything else it could be.
Only other thing is the compressor on the nearside chassis behind the plastic cover, whether it's been turned off if it's been converted to coils

Thanks Steve, good point. I’ll have a look at the weekend. It’s been converted to coils so could issues to do with that.

I'll second that, I moved the height sensor on mine last week to fix the shock mount and since then the compressor has been sporadicly firing up....
It's can't be anything with the ace as that's a belt driven assistance pump same as a regular power steering pump :)
