Hi all, I'm going to fit a water temp. gauge to my D2 & was wondering,
Where is the best place to fit a temp. sender in the cooling system ( I have a 10x1 tap for threading) & are there any recommendations for temp. gauges ? I would prefer a digital one if possible. Many thanks in advance.

The sender should be installed somewhere on the hottest side of the cooling system, which is where the factory fitted temp sender is installed. I don't see why it shouldn't work with an adapter somewhere along the top hose, which would save you drilling or changing the flange to the cylinder head. As for the unit itself, someone else will be able to advise but I would personally be interested in a wireless device to cut down on cabling and drilling holes.

Hi, as I've got to do three broken ex manifold studs (and replace the other seven) I'll just drill & tap the original sender housing whilst I'm waiting for the manifold to be skimmed. I've had a quick look at gauges/sender units but not noticed any wireless ones, thanks for the reply.
 
I drilled into the elbow near the original sender ...since then i discovered this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/CYLINDER-H...474209?hash=item2598456361:g:X-4AAOSwPhdVNzLe which IMO is better cos it will show instantly if you lost all the coolant while the other one reacts late if coolant doesnt reach the sensor.... i wish i knew about it before i fitted mine.
Thanks for that, so where do you think the best place to fit the sensor ring would be? as there are no spark plugs. I have to do the ex. manifold studs so drilling/tapping wouldn't be any real extra hassle but I'd certainly go for one of those & as I've still got the head lining out I could fit the gauge up there.
 
IMO fixed with one of the elbow's bolt would be good enough, a friend of mine fitted one there and the reading is accurate, 1 degree lower that the ECT reading with tester.
