There seems to be a Freelander common faults and fixes list but I can't find one for D2, so am scrabbling around the various horror stories posted online to grab a fault here, a failure there, a near-death experience over there...

We have a manual left-hand-drive Discovery 2 TD5 registered 2000, bought in Germany in December. One owner from new, full service history, and in very good condition overall, though airbags are leaky (we're about to replace with coil springs; sorry to airbag fans).

I (being English) have had terrible Land Rover experiences in the past but my mechanic (Albanian), who was with me when we bought the car seems confident. And so far, air bags aside, it has been excellent. It doesn't even leak in heavy rain...

I think/hope that German Land Rover dealers are more conscientious than British ones...

It's just approaching 200,000km when it's due a service. I want to compile a list for him of things he *must* check/replace. The oil pump bolt is top of the list, but has someone out there on the interweb created a definitive check/replace list on one page highlighting common D2 faults / things to watch?

Or is the internet too small to hold a list of Discovery 2 problems?

FYI, labour is very cheap in Albania and the mechanic's a mate so time-consuming jobs aren't too scary. However, he works at a Mercedes garage (where he's the Albanian equivalent of the German 'Meister') and hasn't worked on too many Land Rovers in the past...

Its a difficult one?? Hard to list everything with the d2 I've just learnt as I've gone along with help from this forum, itd be too complicated to do a list! in 5 years my d2 hasn't caused to many problems but I've always done the work myself and good at sourcing cheaper or 2nd hand parts so if I was to pay someone else it'd be a lot more expensive! But all in all its been reliable and I do 20k miles a year in rough and smooth ground, it's like the human body loads of **** can go wrong with it but it'd be a mission to write a quick list so lol so like your body look after it and only put good quality products in it! And regularly serviced 😄

Regular use and regular maintenance seems to keep them happy, off-roading tends to bring out problems in the ABS system through dirt and increased clearances for the ABS sensors. Leaking sunroofs and damp ineriors are bad for the electronics.

Fuel Pressure Regulator on the TD5, fuel pipe at the pump end, electrics are pretty good if kept dry. Oil on the ECU loom and ECU plug, regular problem on TD5's but not terminal if kept under control.
