Suddenly yesterday the chime alarm started sounding, the one I usually hear when I leave keys in ignition or lights on engine off. No idea why, it comes on when I turn key to position 2 and/or start engine. It chimes constantly when driving, I haven't tested extensively yet but so far it seems to go off after about ten minutes but then comes back on a minute or two later.
I have scoured the forums and it doesn't seem anyone has any cure for it but I thought I would post a thread in case someone does know.
I tried removing Fuse 27, that stopped it, but also brought on three dash warning lights (3 amigos?).
The only option I can think of right now is to find the chime speaker in dash and cut the wire to it or unplug it, but obviously I'd rather actually find and fix the fault if possible.
Grateful for any ideas.

Hi, if the sound stops by removing F27 means that the audible warning is triggered by the SLABS ECU, check if the HDC switch was not accidentally pushed cos that one can trigger a constant warning if the TB is in high, if it's not that we'll speak again

Thanks very much. Could you just let me know what HDC is and also TB, I will look into it tomorrow and report back.

By the way, a new gearbox was fitted just a few days prior.

And also, bit of new info today maybe... when the noise goes off after a while, if I open the driver's door the chime starts instantly again. It seems related to opening that door but obviously can't be sure. Will follow your instructions first. thanks again

You should really take a quick look into the owner's manual for your vehicle to know at least the basics for driving and operating it, make sure the HDC button is not pushed in as it's a latching switch ... and TB = transfer box

Thanks, yes I know what Hill Descent Control is and what a Transfer Box, just didn't equate your abbreviations to them as I never use them, but I know they're there!
That's a very easy thing to check, I'll do it now!....

HOLY sh** - You're a genuis! It was indeed pushed in, no idea how, but that seemed to stop the chiming with ignition on! I haven't driven it but will tomorrow to verify, but looks like you've solved a problem that's had me pulling fuses and googling all day. Could one feel any dumber? :D
Thanks very much
