Hi everyone,

I have just purchased a base vehicle for my first Land Rover project its a discovery 1 v8 manual. I am going to build a 100" defender hybrid. I will be documenting the build here and any tips would be very helpful and much appreciated! It will not be easy but I like a challenge!

Yes I have! :) I don't quite have the funds to go as far as mark did, but I hope to have something along those lines. An awesome looking vehicle. Thanks for the welcome!

Progress update, body is nearly ready to come off, still have to disconnect some heater pipes, some wiring underneath etc. lifting gantry will arrive next week for the big lift. Will post some photos at the point.

Build update.

Successful body removal on Saturday. Firstly all body mounts were removed (removed front and back bumpers to access front body mounts and rear body mounts) I then removed rear seat belt anchors (behind rear seats). I also disconnected the brake lines in each front wheel well and above the rear axle for the rear brakes. I disconnected the abs in the same place above the rear axle for the rear abs. For the front abs the plugs are in the engine bay. I unplugged the engine wiring loom in the drivers foot well behind the panel (2 half turn fixings) and pulled the loom into the engine as this seemed the easiest way. I disconnected the air-con pipes, heater pipes and removed the radiator all together. I also disconnected the gearbox and transfer box wiring from inside engine bay via a connector next to the washer bottle. I also unclipped all breathers and fuel lines from the body and disconnected the handbrake cable from the lever end. Then using the gantry crane I lifted the body with some ratchet straps and a chain block. Had to add a couple of straps to adjust the pitch so it would clear engine. When the body was clear I then rolled the chassis out from underneath and lowered the body down on to the floor. This was all done on my driveway much to neighbours/passers-by's bemusement! (think they just thought I was crazy) Here's a few pictures of the day. I may have left out some things but hard to remember it all as there was a lot to disconnect.
