hi guys ,bought a friends 2.5 range rover dse about 6 months ago,was getting a bit bored with its sluggishniss,so made the fatefull error of leaving it in to get a performance get installed,that was 8 weeks ago_Once the chip was installed the mechanic called to say it was overheating,yes youve guessed it HEAD GASKET trouble ,now he tells me i need a new cylinder head,delighted i am.I am aware now this is a common problem,what i would like to know is was this caused by this chip and what do i do next?
 
I have heard of chips causing this sort of problem before with that engine.

The 2.5 does have problems with the head in standard form, and a chip adds to the stress. The head problem is inherent in the design, and you cannot say that the chip caused it directly, but I would definitely say it increased the chance of that particular problem occuring. Exactly why I've steered clear of chipping mine.

If you do get your engine chipped, you are really supposed to have the chip tuned to your own engine whilst the installer monitors the exhaust temperature to make sure it isn't frying the engine, because each engine reacts differently to the chip depending on many factors.

Try and get a decent head from a scrappy, or buy a new one and fit it. Either way it is not going to be a cheap repair, sorry.
