Right, our recently purchased 72 s3 petrol was cutting out when we came to stop at traffic/roundabouts etc.
I've replaced the plugs, points, condenser, ht leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm and coil. I've cleaned out the glass bowl fuel filter which had loads of orange gunky stuff in the bottom, cleaned the air filter and changed the oil in it.
What I have noticed though is that it does it regardless of how fast I have the tickover (in an attempt to stop it) and, when I tried to adjust the mixture on the zenith carb, I was able to take out the adjuster screw without making any difference to the running of the engine. When the scrwe was out, there was a feint whistling noise coming from the hole. I've tried spraying carb/choke cleaner down the carb....but still it cuts out.
Is this a fooked carb or what? Totally baffled now.
The only thing I havent done yet is adjust the timing & valves but it runs smoothly and doesnt lack power so I figured they must be pretty good>
