Been like it for a while now and it's starting to **** me off. Every time I put my 93 200tdi in reverse it goes, crunch quite badly when engaging the gear.
Is this a sign my gear box is on it's way out or what?

Cheers guys!

clutch as no syncro on reverse on 99% of all gearboxes.

try going into 3rd or 4th before going into reverse. This should help.

how does that help? im having this problem too

The reverse gear is a crash gear with no syncromesh. By selecting another gear before reverse you stop the shaft spinning thus preventing the crunching.

If it still crunches even if you select another gear first it means that you have a problem and the clutch is not clearing. This could be caused by a damaged pressure plate or the plate is sticking on the splines on the shaft and therefore is rubbing on the flywheel.

i have the same problem and when i rev then release the accelerator then rev a few times something clunks underneath each time :s
