I have a creaking noise from the rear axle area on my 2001 DT when coming to a halt using the brakes. It occurs again when the brakes are released and the drive engaged.
I dont think its any thing to do with the drive train. I thought it to be torque or momentum affecting a bush that I can't identify. I have tried bushes using a pry bar but can't see anything out of the way.
Could it be brake calipers? Nothing showing here through a search.

It's nagging at this stage anyone any ideas?

It sounds like movement in a bush. If you locked on the brakes and had forward and backward movement from the axle up it seems to cause this. The most place I notice it is at a junction at the bottom of a hill near my house. The momentum of the upper body when I brake is carried forward and this creak occurs. When I release the footbrake it creaks again.
The suspension arrangement seem straight forward enough in the P38. I suppose a bit of oil around the bushes and begin the process of elimination.

Open your doors stand just upright on the edge of each door opening floor and mimicking the suspension up and down if it is a shock or bush you should hear it with a set of extra ears

Check the rivets in the rear trailing arms.
The arms are a composite and secured by a couple of large rivets. I have heard of them developing a bit of play. it is usually a loud clicking noise.

Well I finallly found out what the noise was:5bblush5:.I suppose a creak wasn't the best discription.

I opened up the spare wheel area and spotted a couple of heavy wheel nuts dislodged from where they should be stored. They had the effect of rolling backwards and forwards with the starting and stopping motion of the RR.
Embarrasing but at least it's not wrecking my head now when stareting and stopping.

I think you owe it to yourself to re-enact this with photos for a how-to at the top of the page. :)

How rolling wheel nuts represents creaking is well and truly beyond me , you need to watch more horror films !

No wonder some peoples questions don't get the correct answer. Their fault descriptions are at times wondrous to behold. :D:D:D

Not a great discription looking back I agree. I was comparing it to the body roll effect in relation to the chassis. I had it down for something in the suspension system.

Ah well a simple but embarising fix.

Well done for owning up and letting us know what it was.......
