Hello!

It looks like the crankshaft position sensor on my 2007 Freelander 2 2.2 diesel has started acting up, the the car jerking and on occasion cutting out completely.

I rang my local Land Rover dealer and ordered a new one at a cost of £107 plus VAT, however looking on motor factor websites and eBay there are some for as little as £20.

Now I know this is probably a silly question, but are the £20 ones simply a waste of money? It seems too good to be true to be less than a fifth of the price.

Cheers,

Steve

This company gives a 5yr warranty on the ones they sell, don't forget that the sensor also fits other makes, so no need to pay stealer prices.

I am informed the one below should be avoided, as it can fail within 12 months.

I wonder if they honour the warranty ?

I fitted that one, it failed in 12 months, leaving me stranded at the roadside.

The factory fitment is Febi, and costs under £20. Avoid cheap no name makes, as the pins aren't thick enough to make good contact with the plug, which causes the sensor to fail. If the plug is at all suspect (they suffer from corrosion and contact spreading), then a replacement sensor will have a short life.
The plug bodies weren't available in the UK when I needed one, but the pins are available on Ebay, and the old plug can be pulled apart to fit new pins if needed.

Here's the ebay link.

It's been on the car since June. But I've done about 2k miles in that time, and so far so good. I replaced the plug at the same time, as the contacts had spread more than I liked. I bought a couple of plugs, as they cam from the US, so the shipping was more than the plugs themselves.
