Hi ive just got a new airfilter + box , the problem is the box has not got a take off pipe that goes to the little breather filter unit up top ,next to the rocker box then the pipe goes down to the oil filter/crank case ? , Will it matter that the pipe from the little filter unit does not connect to the main airfilter box as it does now and i just leave it off , or does it have to be connected for whatever reason .thanks gerry

wont hurt unit it comes of is cyclone and oil in breather is supposed to seperate out and drop back in sump through lower pipe ,so you shoulnt get much oil from filter end you could just lengthen it and run it down to bottom of engine etc, crank case gases are supposed to run to inlet for emission purposes but who would notice

so on the 200tdi the pipe that comes from oilfilter/crankcase up to the mini filter at the rocker box then over the engine to the airfilter , if i then run that pipe back down it wont matter not connecting to the airfilter box

nearly it (cyclone ) gets breather gas from rocker box any oil goes down to sump through lower pipe thats why its fitted to sump so gases dont go up it

think im with you now , i did not know that the top mini filter was working as a breather for the rocker box also, i thought it was a unit just mounted there and was purely for crankcase and mounted in-line from there to the filter box

its a cyclone it gets all pressure from rocker box bottom pipe is only a return for oil ,put on sump to be under oil level so no pressure goes up it cancelling out cyclone effect which seperates oil from air, thus not filling air filter as erlier models without cyclone did

Think im best keeping the old steel houeing unit and just change the filter and so i can keep the pipe connected to it , I got the complete unit cheap and thought with it been light weight and new inc dump valve etc i could just swap 1-1 , but maybe more trouble than its worth , Thanks for explaining the cyclone to me it was that and the vacum/pressurised system i was not sure about thanks gerry
