Hi all,
I need to change the front cover on my disco as the fan bearing on the existing one is about ready to fall apart:rolleyes:

Is the crank pulley bolt a standard thread? I can't remember

Hopefully if the rain holds off I'll get her done tomorrow.

Thanks

Yup standard thread and bloody tight-I use the breaker bar under the chassis method and turn the starter-works well for me.

Thanks for that, I have a big breaker And a home made pulley locking tool so now it just depends on the weather :(

Finally got the job done, bloody weather.

Took two hours in all, nice easy job after all as I only did the timing belt a year ago. She sounds much happier now, you could hear the old bearing grumbling over the usual engine noises!

Tips...

To get the fan pulley off, an air impact wrench is ideal as you don't have to risk damaging the pulley when trying to lock it up.

Remove the coolant tank bolts, drop the tank a little and undo the stat and header bungs, the coolant will drain back into the coolant tank. Remove the top hose and no coolant is lost at all. When refilling, lift the tank slowly and the coolant will rise, when it reaches the rad header replace that bung and when it reaches the stat housing replace that bung. Result is no mess or lost coolant and no airlocks - job done.
