Hi all
My mate only had one keyfob for his freelander and this became faulty due to a broken battery contact.
He had to go to landrover who sold him a fob for £30 and charged another £40 for programming it.
Is there a cheaper alternative? Thought it seemed a little excessive.

Is it not possible to resolder the orinal keyfob he has? He could try one of the many keyfobs for sale on that well known internet auction site but then you have to still find somebody to recode it to his car. Better check with local/independent dealer if they are prepared to recode a handset bought in this fashion first though as many won't guarantee the recoding to work but will still charge the full recoding fee.

I've heard that Rover charge £90 for the same fob and programming.

I have about 4 spare 'in stock' just in case my originals fail. They can be found for £5-£10 each or 'pocketed' in scrapyards if your very lucky.

What the hell do you expect - having paid nearly £11000 for Testbook and its obselete after 3 years, you have to charge a reasonable sum to recover your outlay - let alone make a profit.
If you look at other manufacturers,Alfa I think are Known for expnsive keys/fobs - you will realise how cheap your LR is.

Hi eightinavee,

Excuse my ignorance as English not my mother tongue but when you say "how cheap your LR is", do you mean cheap in not expensive or cheap in built quality ??:D :D :D

Ps: I'm very happy with my Hippo Td4 though, so not being sarcastic at all, but couldn't miss this .....;) :) :) :) :) :)

I found this info dont know if it works but could save money when buying a fob second hand.

1. Starting conditions: ignition off, doors unlocked, hood switch depressed.
2. Carry out instructions 3. to 9. within 8 seconds.
3. Switch ignition ON.
4. Switch ignition OFF.
5. Lock doors.
6. Unlock doors.
7. Release hood switch.
8. Switch ignition ON.
9. Switch ignition OFF.

If alarm is correctly accessed, horn will sound and LED will light. It is now possible to program two handsets of correct frequency to vehicle alarm ECU. This must be carried out within two minutes.

10. Press and hold down button on first handset until dash LED flashes.
11. Repeat instruction 10. for second handset.
12. The LED will extinguish if both handsets have been programmed correctly.

Good luck

Nice one, trouble is the info relates to the pear shaped single button fob on early Disco's and RR classics. So I'll keep on using Testbook cos it wont work any other way unless you are able to show me another way.(have cash, will pay);)
