...yeah, I know, "they all do that"! Looking for a cheap temporary solution. Does Jenolite or CureRust work on corroded aluminium or is it only to treat rust on ferrous metals? Thanks in advance for any advice, B

After youve treated it, filled it and repainted ect...id have a look on ebay for a replacement there not as dear as you might think

Jenolite (Phosphoric Acid) does not work on aluminim, in fact it helps it corrode.
I took the trim off mine and put plenty of oil in there, messy but it forms an insulating barrier between the ally and the steel and slows or stops the corrosion. Diluted Waxoil is even better.

On my to do list, lower tailgate off for treatment and paint + wax in cavities

Bought a replacement from ebay for £35 same colour and in perfect nick took 20 mins to replace

Had mine treated and repainted in June. Already beginning to Bubble! Should have just purchased a new one on Ebay and had it painted.

Alloy must be bared, blasted, cleaned and etch primed within half an hour to seal it. Left cleaned and unprimed it will re oxidise in less than an hour. If it was done by a body shop take it back they did a **** job.

Or they used chemicals to strip it and didn't wash is properly aluminium is usually chemical striped down to the last layers first washed and finished of with a light grit blast to avoid warping .
Well that's the proper way to do it and as you say etched primer afterwards .
