Hiya,:brick:

I had a water leak on my D2 and have checked all usual bits and found nothing. topped up alot but now got worse so this morning i stripped off all covers jacked it up and had a good look.
I poured water into the header tank and checked for drips. I finally spotted a hole in a core plug to the front of block on inlet side.
Quick questions.
How hard is it to change a core plug?
what do i have to take off to gain access?
how much are they?

Never done one on a Disco, but last time I did do one I just tapped it in on one side with a small chisel so it twisted out the other side where it could be pulled with pliers. Gotta be careful not to knock it into the block thobut ...

Use some kind of gasket goo when fitting a new one ...

as said above hit the top edge so it swivels in the hole. When fitting the new one use a socket the same diametre as the hole and drive the plug in square on. or you'll never get it to sit flush.

I guess your leak is too big for a radweld-type repair?

I had a slight leak from a core plug:

Bought some radweld-type-stuff stuff which I added to the header tank, and it's been OK since...

the front near side one you can replace in situ, just remove the dip stick to help access. mine has no exhaust recirc gummidge on so has a little more room. take it out with a chisel, screwdriver etc. carefully clean round the edge of the hole.
there is no stop when you put the new one in so you have to judge from the others when it is far enough in. push it too far and it will drop in. keep it square as it goes in. a 6" length of broom handle can be used to tap it in as you can't get a socket on.
be warned though the others need doing.
it will seep a bit to start with. don't worry it will stop.

Was it a easy job as im doing mine tomorrow and did you use any gasket compound
