Hi all,

Just lost all my coolant, tube pictured is leaking it seems (the one I’m pinching) could anyone tell me what the silver device is above the tube that plumbs into the EGR Valve? I’m gonna need to get all that off to actually get to this tube.

Also advice on filling with water to allow the car to do a 10 minute nursery run u til I fully fix leak?

The silver device is providing exhaust gaz to the egr valve.

Put antifreeze if you have, distiled water, and in the last case water,
If I were you I will not run run like that unless you are stuck in middle nowhere with no water and no food ... don't try it, you could run dry in less time than you think ...
Replace the hose and refill with antifreeze ...

The silver box is actually the egr exhaust gas cooler and uses coolant piped to the device to do this.
Mine went in same place roadside.
You can replace that pipe without dismantling everything else if you use a good torch and suitable small socket for pipe clips. 1/4 inch set with extension is ideal.

Hey Andy,

It’s near impossible to take off without removing a hefty amount of components around it! Yes will try this way instead tho cant quite tell where it feeds to. Though the leak continues despite me taking that pipe off so it may be elsewhere as well, though there was definitely a leak in that area as I saw a small puddle.

Noo the pipe is empty and the T junction is too, but the leak continues which leaves me to believe its a leak closer to the ground. Also do you know what the replacement hose would be called. Thanks

Dunno what it is called, on mine the egr was blanked and so I blanked the coolant supply to it as it was not needed.
Any rubber pipe thenright size will replace it. Add a 90 bend if needed.

It will only take you about 30 minutes to remove the air ducting, and intercooler hoses, then the manifold, with EGR attached.

The part leaking is most likely the Y section attached the the head.

Original hose will be fixed with a steel band it will need removing.

It is the Y piece you need to replace as the seals leak, and the unit becomes brittle over time.

Hello,

thanks for reply & the info. Upon further checking it’s the EGR Cooler hose I originally showed in my picture. Removing this damn EGR Cooler is a nightmare though. Could anyone please advise on the size of the hose needed? I am not so great when it comes to measurements lol.

also any advice when I get around to bleeding? I have an auto hence the EGR Cooler wondering if there’s anything I need to be aware of?

I’m convinced the EGR Cooler is a nightmare to remove as I need to remove about 10 other components to get to a single bolt. Seems I’m damned to get this to a 4x4 garage as I really don't know what I can/cant remove to get this thing off!

EDIT: Okay brough some smaller 13mm 1/2 sockets to try get this EGR Cooler mounting bolt off, hopefully this does the trick!
The biggest obstacle is the strong black pipe presumably coming from the engine which feeds to the top of the rad.

I've not found removing the EGR cooler difficult at all really.

Bleeding isn't too bad, you just fill the tank nearly to the top, then release the bleed screws on the cooler and heater pipes to allow the air out, along with some of the coolant.

Hi Nodge

Think I’m just stressed out. I’m not the type of person to just take things apart/out if I don’t know what they do exactly. There is a lot of annoying steel pipes, coolant tubes and god knows what else preventing me from getting the cooler off easily.

Just be methodological, and you'll find it's not nearly as bad as it first appears.

There is just too much to remove I won’t know how to put it all back. Fingers crossed for the short spanner tomorrow to get what I think is the last bolt

It’s a good point. I will be doing diagrams and stripping the parts out if the spanner don’t work, either way the damn cooler is coming off

Okay this cooler is near impossible. I have removed a lot of components and still just when you think its over, there is a final mount for the EGR Cooler which runs TO THE BACK OF THE ENGINE sorry what! Any advice would be appreciated because I’m about defeated, there isn’t enough room to swing a spanner in this engine bay

Upon speaking to garage it seems the bottom housing off the engine air filter can be removed so that may allow access to this bolt, fingers crossed!

EDIT: Nope it’s attached to the whole rocker cover, any advice/precautions before I remove this?
