Right so I tried to locate the source of my leaking, it leaks coolant/water down the left side of the gearbox (looking from the front) near the rear of the engine.

Leaks a lot more with a heavy driving attitude, leaks slowly if driving sensible. Leaks when stationary, if driving sensibly and park up it drips slowly, if driven hard and parked up it drips badly.

I cant pinpoint the source, I thought it was the metal pipe that runs behind the block, pipe 7 in the image below.

after spending a few hours trying to get tools down into the tight engine bay I removed the metal pipe, and the 2 rubber pipes on each end, one to the block and one through the bulk head.

All are fine, with no holes, damage, or breaks. I really wanted it to be damaged and an easy fix, Im stumped.

Plugged up the pipes that were left after removing the metal pipe as pictured below:

Then laid under the car for a good half an hour, there is still a small drip/leak, watched it from under the car, wiped off the trail, then watched it runp from the top left rear of the block, (looking at it from the front of car) down the gearbox, down the sump. I cant see where it come from round the back of the block.

If you look at the first diagram, where pipe 7 meets the rubber 90 degree tube on the left through the bulk head, this is where the water seems the come from, this area on the block (i think), but I cant see where?? It might be moving round the block from the back. Its driving me mad.

So opinions, does anyone think my core plugs have gone, I dont know where exactly they are located, (realise 2 are round the back of the block) cant see them, and dont know what they look like. Does the leaking more under harder driving correspond with a core plug? wouldn't it just gush out?

Dont think its a headgasket as was told it was done when new radiator was fitted a year ago, looks good condition as well.

I tried to get the car booking in at a local landrover specialist, who is very good, but he is seriously booked up, and cant get me in for a week or 2, and I cant have the car off the road that long. So fix it myself.

Cant thank everyone enough for all your help with my many problems, Im slowly getting there aha. I apologise for my long posts, but Id rather give all the info for everyone to read rather than having to add 5 more posts with bits ive missed. Free beers to anyone that can help me out :D

I dont want it to be a cracked block as Ive had this less than a month and was totally screwed by the dealership that sold me it.

So cheers in advance.:)

Looks like I'll be getting shut then, too many problems with this 2 ton pain in the arse, seems to be a money pit since I got it, and that was only a month ago

Dont really see any point throwing more money at it when Im only after a work horse, (and have always wanted a defender really :D)

Looking at the MicroCAT parts catalogue....It only lists one Core Plug and that is on the side of the block...

Damn, so looks like a head gasket then, has anyone had a head gasket done at a garage? did the head have to be skimmed as well? and what did it cost?

Would have a go myself but if it needs skimming then its not worth the hassle of getting it wrong. If its not too much I'll get it fixed, otherwise its going. Need to weigh up the pros and cons.

Ive got to admit im totally gutted /hearbroken at the moment, I love this car, havent had it long, and has been problems since the start, yes I know they are prone for being ****s, but just dont want to put anymore money in to it, just for it to crack, or overheat, or breakdown repeatedly.

Also, in theory, if the head has to be skimmed and a new gasket fitted, how long would it last, does having the head skimmed cause any problems in the long run?
