I have been out shopping this morning in the 110. When I pulled up at home, the temp gauge was more towards the hot side than the centre. I popped the bonnet and the pipe to the radiator (on the right, looking from the front) is warm and supple, but the return back to the engine is substantially cooler (presuming it's actually flowing). The expansion tank is freezing cold, so I'm assuming the thermostat is stuck closed, or busted. Any ideas??

Does the heater work better than usual (for a defender anyway). If heater is good then water pump is working and probably T/stat stuck closed (or a totally blocker radiator).

The heater is amazing for a defender. It takes a few miles to warm up, but really blasts the heat out once it's warm. I guess it's a case of strip the heater pipes and flush the radiator to find out what is going on.

What's the chances the radiator could be blocked?

If the heater is working then the pump is working. Probably the thermostat stuck closed, try removing it and then run it again (obviously fill it with water again!), if the radiator now gets warm then it has proved that the radiator isn't blocked and points to the thermostat. If the rad is still cold then it looks like the rad is blocked.

Sounds like the best idea to me. Thanks for the help. I will let you know how I get on.
