Hi all,

i need to do a coolant change on my 200tdi, just wondering if anyone has any advice on the easiest way to do it?

how much coolant to mix with the deionized water? iv ready lots of different ratios so thought i would see what you all have done with yours?

thanks

Botton hose off to drain, messy as ****
Remove bung from top of rad, and fill up the header tank as normsl, once coolant appears at rad bung, refit bung then keep filling tank until level at the cross mark, then roadtest, take a spare litre with you as once stat opens (3 to 5 miles) the level may drop.

You are 'supposed' to remove the block drain plug too, turbo side under the manifold near the frontish, but I've never managed to get mine out incase it sheared off cos it's brass.

I syphon the coolant out via the bung on the top of the radiator. You can get it pretty low then it makes less mess when you come to undo the bottom rad hose

Out of interest - any specific reason?

It’s an old engine designed to run on blue coolant. I think you can use the pink coolant but there is quite a lot of info out there about the damage it can do for engines that weren’t meant to take it.

just use 50/50 blue glycol coolant and change it every couple of years to keep up the corrosion resistant properties

It may be a myth but I have always believed it was to do with some of the old gaskets/seals not liking the Oats stuff.
I like simple, so work on the principle of its an old engine so it can have old tech coolant.

Land rover did not go Oats until 98 when Td5 came out.
