i think the ignition barrel is possibly fooked on me 200 tdi as sometimes when ya remove the key the engine keeps running and you have to jiggle the key alot for it to turn off

so rather than replacing the barrel i thought about converting to push start and wonderd if anyone had done it and how they went about it..t.i.a:)

i can tell you how to convert it but you still need a switch for ignition as well asd push starter button ,but it does sound like plastic ignition switch in back of steering lock needs changing

As James said, it's not the start circuit that's at fault, it's the ignition circuit, which a push start button won't help.

I have a start button in parallel with my key start switch, saves turning ignition off if the motor stalls.

However I think you need to get a new ignition switch before anything else mate. Easy job though, just plugs in :)

switch is on back of lock under cowl and is straight forward as is conversion but would need wires extending to where ever you wished to site button and switch

you dont even need that. if its a 200TDI defender you need

PRC8230, youll have to doublecheck that it is the right part number because land rover work in strange ways, and might have a different switch, it just unscrews the tiny screwson the side of it then pulls out of the barrel steering lock assembly.

its easiest to take the whole binnacle assembly out and possibly unplug the guages but its probably doable with the guages stil plugged in just a bit more fiddly.

Three kids and the wife can just about push start mine !!!!!!!:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi

How easy is it to wire in a push start ignition button? Nowt wrong with using my key to start it I just think pushing a big red button would be cool. I realise that I would need to turn the key to ignition and then push the button but would still like to do it. Anyone got a guide?

just connect one side of switch into white /red wire coming from ignition and other piggy back other to white
