Hi All

I have a Freelander at the moment and never need to use the 4WD. I live in the city so it’s of no benefit.

I was thinking of converting it to a 2WD if this is possible?

If so is it expensive to do?

What would be any likely pros or cons.

Thanks

why did you buy it then? if you take then enjin out and replace it with a moped one you might get cheaper tax as well!!!

Burn it. . . . . . . . .oops sorry dont know what came over me then, go into search for mondo mode [code for two wheel drive conversion :D]

I think this is a bad idea, just in terms of principle alone. Imagine what would happen if every Tom, Dick and Harry who lived in London decided to do this to their 4x4's. We would end up with all the eco green extremists damaging our reputation even further. I've already had anti 4x4 stickers put on my car by some lunatic, and I live in Devon!

On the plus side, if you convert it to 2WD, you will of course completely eliminate the risk of wear and tear on your VCU. That said, what's the point in having a 2WD Freelander. If you need the space, then perhaps it would make more sense to buy something like a Volvo estate.

Keep in mind that the Freelander is largely front wheel biased anyway. This is intended to provide car-like handling/performance. I believe that only 10% of the power goes to the rear wheel until traction is reduced.
