Hi all,

Just developed a problem with my 95 DT P38 (manual) and I'm not quite sure how to resolve it.

Last Wednesday I got finished work early and decided to change the fuel injector leak off pipes as they were old, cracked and wasn't sure if they were pulling air in. This was a simple job, started her up afterwards to check, everything fine, bonnet shut, locked using remote fob.

At no point did I touch the electrics during this task.

Anyway, after locking it I dropped the fob by accident . Only from waist height and didn't appear to cause any damage.

Went to de-ice the car the following morning and the unlock button wouldn't work. Unlocked using key and only the drivers door unlocked. At this point I thought dead battery as I've had trouble in the past (replaced the RF receiver and all has been well). Put key in ignition and turned. All lights came on but no message centre display (this was the last bulb finally blowing as I replaced all 3 yesterday and working fine now). Car wouldn't turn over and I couldn't see what the message was due to bulbs.

Tried entering the EKA which worked, all doors unlocked and car started fine. Re-synced the fob which worked fine. Wife took car to work and got back home with no problems :).

Car has not been used until yesterday morning, wife took daughter to childminders. Got in car and set off no problem. When she tried to come home (after dropping little one off so only 5-10 minutes) it had done the same again. I went round and did the EKA magic and we got the car home.

Yesterday I changed the bulbs on message centre (car unlocked fine) to find out what it was saying. After doing the bulbs the fob was re-sync'd and working fine (LED lights up).

Tried car again today but same thing has happend. The display only says 'Engine Disabled', meaning I have to put in EKA code :confused2:.

Whilst I can still use the car this is quite annoying as it seems to be only now and again and no real pattern as to when it happens.

I'm guessing the 'Engine Disabled' comes on because the BECM thinks the alarm is still active. I'm tempted to think that by dropping the fob I've done some internal damage or something has come loose.

Yet it works fine sometimes and the LED always lights up everytime you press the buttons.

Does anyone have any ideas?? Please.

I've checked the usual sources (RAVE, RangeRovers.net etc).

Is it going to be a plug into testbook and pants down experience??

Thanks,

Gary

Send me the info please as mine does a similar thing but being 2001 I can just insert the key press a button and it's all good again

If you keep the FOB in your trouser pocket, the stupid buttons can be operated by coins, keys etc when you are away from the car, this can lead to the rolling code going out of sync. FOB buried in handbag can produce the same problem.

What if you treat it well? kept seperate from other keys as this is the only key you have?? :(

A second key will go out of sync if not used for a while, wife's does from time to time. Never needed EKA, unlock with key, drivers door only unlocks, key in ignition and the other doors unlock and it's re-synced, but it's the later model with the passive coil in the ignition lock.
I keep the FOB I use on it's own with no other keys attached and never in my trouser pocket, since keeping it separate I've had no more instance of loss of FOB sync.:)

Similar thing happened to me a few months ago, dropped the key ... Things initially went a bit crazy but then it packed up completely ... Eventually I could hear something inside the fob was loose. Had no option but to order new fob from the local stealer but cut open the old fob to find a surface mount component had dried out and been knocked off by dropping. Mines a 97 so if yours is one of the original keys from 95 ... Might be same issue

Thanks for message Mozz.

Tried to unlock car after leaving it overnight and it unlocked from fob. Didn't try to start as I'm fairly confident it will, if it unlocks. The problem manifested itself as not unlocking all the doors so thats why I'm fairly happy it would start.

What's the best time to phone you Mozz? It might not happen again but I'm sure theres something afoot somewhere?????

I tried to push the button on fob when it say's 'Engine Disabled' but being a 95 I guess I don't have this luxury optional extra:(.

If something was loose inside would you be able to repair it (depending what it was of course)??

Thanks, Gary
