Hi folks,
still battling with poor running Td5 in a MY 2005 Defender I did a compression test with home-made adaptor (on lathe) to have checked all five pots.

As one can see indication charts show hot and cold test in comparison.
Evenly about 21 bars at a few degrees less than operating temperature (had gloves on :mad2: ) and about 25 bars on cold engine.

From my experience this is far to low.

Local engine repair shop says: refer to LR in this matter - LR says refer to dealer - dealer has as expected "not the foggiest idea" ... and refers to new cars show room...

Does anybody have an idea/experience regarding wear limit or minimum required pressure value on Td5's ??

By the way: car has 117.000 kms on the clock. Fitted AMC head from TE @ 93.0000 kms so valve or head seal issue can be excluded.

Hi a 1 bar is 14.5 psi !! 25 bar would be 362.5 psi !!! Per cylinder !! This I think would be high compression for this engine !!

How did you check all five? Did you do it via a pulled injector?

Can you post a picture of the tester? Particularly the adapter!

Hi jabber,

sorry for delay! I'm "online" @ lz just every couple of days.

See picture below with adapter and injector in comparison.
The adapter is home-made on my lathe reproduced from an old and defect injector. Tester is a MotoMeter Diesel tester up to 40 bars.

Tested all five pots using copper washer and torque wrench setting accordingly.

Rgds,
Ploughman
