Hi guys

I want to do some work on my 1997 300tdi and want to do it myself, I have owned and restored classic VW's for 15 years and always done my own mechanics but new to Land Rovers.

Here goes;)

My fan belt tensioner pulley wobbles and squeaks, should I buy this:

Land Rover Defender 300 TDi Fan Belt Tensioner Repair Kit + Belt Early | eBay

or this:

DEFENDER 90 110 300TDI FAN BELT TENSIONER ERR4708 GENUINE DAYCO | eBay

Now onto the timing bits:(

From reading I need one of these:

Land Rover Diesel Engine Timing Tool Kit for 200Tdi, 300Tdi 2.5D (12J) 2.5TD NEW | eBay

Do I next buy this:

Land Rover 300TDi Timing Cam Belt Kit part No STC4096 L | eBay

or just this:

LAND ROVER DEFENDER 300 TDi TIMING BELT CAMBELT * | eBay

Sorry about the ebay links guys, I have looked at some of the parts supplier's but ebay seems cheapest by far.

I don't mind spending money on my land rover as I love it to bit's but not really in a position to waste money so would really appreciate your advice:D

Many thanks

Brian

Might just add, Land rover was supposed to have been serviced before buying it but I have no history as to when the timing belt was last changed [mileage reads 102k]

Many thanks for the quick reply, looks like this is gonna be expensive:eek::lol:

Yes, but think how much more expensive it would be getting someone else to do it. Anyway, if you can do Volkswagens this shouldn't be too difficult!

As James said. Belt tensioner bearing can be changed cheap, but I ended up buying the new assembly as it still squeaked with a new bearing. It can be more to do with the belt alignment on the pulley than the bearing failing.

Cheers guys

Is the timing tool kit alignment thing ok? just there's several out there all different prices and I haven't the foggiest of any difference, all look the same to me:confused:
