Picked up my new defender this month. it arrived without 2 options I ordered, heated seats and windscreen. The dealer refunded the option price, but I asked if these can be installed anyway by ordering the required parts. He told me , no the wiring is not there and would be difficult, then he told me I don't need them anyway because the seats don't heat very well, just a couple of wire strips in the bottom (its not like a range rover he said) and the windshield is mainly for arctic countries. I still want them but is the dealer correct on his points, that they will be difficult to retrofit and not work well anyway?
I know this is small stuff but I thought I'd ask to anyone who knows about these options.

Yeah but I waited for it 5 months, they gave me back the option price, so what was I to do, all else was ok and I can't wait another few months by refusing it. I figure they could have done worse. The dealer told me its a problem in the ordering process since Tata took over. The Italian SE package comes with cold weather and the UK version it's a separate order...the factory overlooked this

:fencing: live with it then I guess, still at least they didn't tell you they screwed th order up and present you with a tata loadbeta:D

anyone who has had a heated screen, even over a UK winter will tell you what a boon they are

There's lots of people who'd disagree with your dealer about heated seats and heated windscreen, they're well worth having.

Retro-fitting both of these options isn't an impossible task, lots of people have done it.

You do have to add some additional wiring, but that's not too difficult.

The connectors you need for the switches and the seats can be sourced.

Actually, the heated seats are rather good and the heated screen is a must in the winter.
 
I would of refused to buy the car as if i wanted heated seats id of expected to get heated seats not have to retro fit them myself to a brand new vehicle and he only refunded you the option money? Youve been took for a monkey mate.
 
Thats total Bo**ocks.

the heated screen is one of the most sought after upgrades for a reason -its awsome in the winter!
Its pretty easy to retro fit too, im in the process of doing it for this comming winter!

And the heated seats are great too!
I dont know if LR use the same ones as exmoor trim but ET use the waeco msh50 (64 quid on ebay)-latest version is the msh200 (124 quid on ebay)with carbon pads that can be cut to any shape -fitting is a doddle so dont let that P*ss taking dealer tell you otherwise.

If it were my 24 grand on a new wagon and it wasnt to the spec id pay'd for id be onto trading standards.
Wave that at him and he will prob put it into his workshop free of charge.
