Hi all,
I've a question, I have a 98 300tdi XS and I'm starting to get it ready to greenlane.
I want to refresh the springs front but particularly the rears that look to be sagging a bit.
I'm not looking to raise it (although a little would be nice) as it's a daily driver and I tow our caravan with it but heavier duty springs would be useful as I also regularly carry tools and or 6 dogs in the back.
I've heard about both police spec springs and also fitting 110 rear springs ? Any thoughts or suggestions.
I have read quite a few threads on this but they all seem to conflict or get very performance orientated.
I'm not looking to spend a lot on a full kit or do anything that might have a knock on effect on other parts which is why I'm looking to standard but uprated parts.
I'm guessing a small lift will come from this as new springs will take it back up to its original height.

Also what are the effects of removing the anti roll bars? Would this bugger it up daily drive or towing wise ?

Cheers and sorry it's a long one !

Andy

why would you want to remove the anti-roll bars, they are there to do a job?.

The anti roll bars are removed to give the suspension more articulation so it handles and performs better when off road, having never done this I am curious if with standard height springs there is much to be gained/lost in everyday driving against gains when off road or is it purely an extended travel set up thing.

yes i know that, but you use it on road and for towing.unless you want extreme articulation, then leave them fitted.just my opinion though.:)

do yu need to remove the ar bars if yu have a large lift? if so how much lift? i cant see them working well with std drop links and a 5" lift

That was my question, am I better to leave them on as I do a lot of road miles esp towing ?
This is my first time doing anything like this and after reading a lot of posts there is a great deal of conflicting information.
So I suppose my questions are :-
Heavy duty springs y/n,
if yes :- Police, 110 or bearmach-terrafirma springs ?

I take it I need to leave the ARB's alone so is there any other items I need to look at changing for new or uprated now or as they wear ?

I put HD springs on my disco and super gaz shocks. Standard height but ended up lifting it about 1" as the old ones where so shot. Hd springs haven't caused me any problems and drives really well.

Heavy duty springs - YES

ARB's connected or not connected - CONNECTED

Type of rear springs - see linky: ANR4491 | Rear Coil Spring - Heavy Duty Police Spec

Anything else? Change rear shocks - http://www.paddockspares.com/m6643-rear-gas-shock-absorber-from-ma-monroe.html
