Morning Folks
Was wondering if anyone knows of a garage or mechanic in the Leeds/Wakefield/Pontefract area that has a code reader that wont charge the earth? (IRD & VCU replacement, new set of tyres and tailgate window motor all in last 8 weeks has cleaned me out )
Had the money pit, a 2005 Freelander td4 since Feb, occasionally i’d get the engine management warning light on motorway at 70 mph upwards when pulling up hill but there was no noticeable loss of power. Don’t do very much motorway driving so didn’t think much of it. However, its started to do it now from 50 mph upward. Its fine on the flat or down hill but you put slightest incline in and on comes the light. As its the only TD4 I have ever driven, I cant compare, but its not the nippiest of beasts. Had a 04 plate 2.0 d4d Avensis before and it would literally leave the Hippo standing. Starting to wonder if its meant to be like that or could it be connected?
Spent some time on here reading am now unsure where to start – EGR Valve? MAF Sensor? Fuel pump? Fuel Filter? Turbo Boost Solenoid or Turbo Boost Solenoid Filter?
Any advice greatly appreciated!

Disconnected MAF and massive improvement in lower range <3000 rpm. down side - MIL still comes on at 50mph+. Pulled pipe from Turbo Boost Solenoid and again MIL still comes on. If it ever stops raining am looking at cleaning EGR and then fitting new fuel filter hopefully tomorrow see what that does.

 Tried that earlier. pulled pipe 1 off as described, popped onto motorway, hit 70 and MIL came on...Back to the drawing board!

Appreciated though Hippo. Am open to suggestions at this point till I get my hands on a code reader.

is your oil at the required level or is your fuel pump playing up I know you have said no problems on power. OR is there a wire loose and it touches ground when going up hill it could be the oil level switch wire

Teddywood, oil level is spot on. Havent looked at the oil level switch yet - just been out so need to leave it to cool for a bit! From reading the other posts the other night, a few times fuel pumps popped up or system not deliverying enough fuel when its under load ect so it is on my list but I have to be honest, am starting with the cheaper/DIY cleans and checks first! Hence de-gunging the EGR had this morning.

Sidenote. The little 5 sided security torx screws that hold the Bosch MAF in? Whats the proper name for them please as non of the local auto factors / tool shops seem to have a clue what I am asking for
