My 1.8 freelander cant seem to pass the CO test. The ECU isnt showing any faults and the Lambda is ok.

Had a cheap cat missfitted by Kwik Fit (with paste in front of the cat) so they replaced it under warranty but still no joy.

Garage is stumped and now thinking it must still be the cat....the new one isnt a landrover part (ouch they are expensive and it would be a sickener if that still didnt work).

Car is running well appart from not managing an mot and the HC emissions are fine.

Anyone had this problem?

Any good CAT should remove most of the CO (approx 90%), some 1.8's pass the CO emissions without a CAT, but engine has to be fully warmed up.

What year is the 1.8, does it have a second Lambda sensor downstream of the CAT?

Whats your air filter like, remove the filter then take a reading when warmed up.

As the HC is fine then it would rule out overfuelling, needs diagnostic (T4) to confirm this

No surprise for the botch job from Kick Fit!

Get the garage to fit another CAT if all else fails

Thanks folks, the matter was resolved today with a new bosel cat. The replacement that kwik-fit supplied was as bad as the duffer they originally fitted. New cat sorted the fault out completely.

Really shocking thing was the replacement from kwik fit had paste on the front flange as well as either that or something else partially clogging the face of the cat block inside!!!!

My next stop it trading standards but Im rolling legal again!
