Hello - first post so please be kind...

I've been searching around the forums for a similar problem but couldn't find any hits.

The clutch on my series III appears to lose pressure from time to time, generally this happens if I step on the clutch pedal very gradually (when I do this i get very little resistance from the clutch). What happens is that the bite on the clutch gets much much lower - to the point that if I keep the pedal down I get no bite at all, it's as if the master cylinder had lost all pressure.

The slave is brand new (I just replaced it thinking that was the problem) and the master was changed a year ago for a proper branded one. How can I find out if the master is losing pressure without going out to buy a replacement?

Many thanks,
Alex

Just had a similair problem on my sons Series, that was his master cylinder. The way we found it to be that was by leaving off the resevoir cap and operate the pedal, if fluid bubbles up/spits out then it is the master cylinder.

There is a one way valve in the master cylinder.
When you press the peddle (Hard) this valve will close and stop the fluid from pushing back in to the reservoir.
If this valve is not closing properly then fluid can flow back.

You may be lucky and fix it by exercising it and or changing the fluid but it's probably
best to either live with it or get a new master cylinder.
