hi guys..... can the master cylinder lose its push through the day...eg... gears go in easy first thing in the morning... half hour drive I have to go into second gear (with force) because it wont go into first.... its like it needs that extra push but wont...I have replaced it with new one and the bracket when I had the car it was not a genuine part but all I could afford at the time..... any ideas guys will be helpful on this as need all gears now as got a caravan.....1.8 se 51 plate.. thanks in advance

Spray the release arm with 3 in 1 - get someone to operate the clutch pedal while you spray it - see if gear selection gets easier after a while.

What do you mean by not a genuine part - the bracket?

Make sure there is enough fluid in the master cylinder reservoir. There's either a leak in the slave or the master is on is way out. The master is easy to replace but the slave means a garage job unless you want to remove the gearbox yourself.

Assuming that its not one unit:

A simple test it so separate the two via the quick connector, after that press on the clutch. If it goes down its the master thats knackered, if it doesn't move (which it shouldn't) its the slave thats at fault.

The 1.8 tows a caravan very well....
the part is from ebay so the master cylinder and the bracket is not a genuine part.....
and its all one unit......

Yes the master and slave is a sealed unit, you bought a new bracket too so all should be well with those...as before you need to see if the clutch release arm will loosen up by spraying it - the release arm is the bit that goes into the gearbox and is operated by the slave piston;)
