:( clutch went about 30 mins ago on my 300tdi. the pedal whe i push down is really loose and sticks down and no drive when in gears.. is this normal becuase i thought that you could still drive when the clutch goes?.. even if its just to the garage.

i knew something wasnt quite right about 2 weeks ago but when in for mot the garage had a look and the noise i could hear had gone when they were looking, typicAL!..

and as i hadnt renewed my rac has anyone got any suggestions except towing for me to get it to the garage (surrey, guildford dorking area)?

thanks

Depends what has 'gone' if it is the release bearing then this will just prevent you from disenguaging (releasing) the clutch and cause it to be stuck connected, and prevent you from getting it into gear

However it soulds like when the engine is running it goes into gear even with the clutch pedel up, and you dont get any drive????

If this is the case it sounds like the clutch disk has disintigrated itself, and that is a tow/trailer job.

You could also think about getting somebody to come to you to fix it £££££ or do it your self (only if you know what your doing / want to learn the hard way)

roll it out onto the road, preferrably downhill, put it in gear with the handbrake off, turn over the engine, it should start and drive after the second of third turnover. now the tricky bit... be prepared WELL IN ADVANCE for any need to slow down!! as you have no clutch, its difficult to slow down and if you stop you have to repeat the startup process again... for changing gears you have to match the rpm of the next gear by pressing the throttle, you will feel some resistance but it shouldnt be very hard to get the hang of. good luck!! and dont blame me if you plow into something:)

haha, yea that too:D happened me on a dual carrigeway last year... drove the whole way home and to the garage next day (after a quick trip to the shop) doing this, worked fine! :)

I think the man said he had NO DRIVE, so none of those tricks are going to help him.

Apart from that, driving with a failed clutch would be an OFFENCE under Contruction and Use Regs.

Sounds to me like failure complete of the clutch cover.
