My series 3 is needing a clutch and rear seal replacement. I've tried loads of 4x4 local repairers but no one seems interested. I do everything myself normally but I think will struggle on my own in the driveway. The cross member is removable which makes it a bit easier. Does anyone have any advise? Many thanks

You will find every commercial garage will avoid old land rovers like the plague, mainly as any job will develop other issues and most owners will not want to pay for the development.
I bet if you do get someone to quote if will be a fcuk off price!

It is actually easier to take the engine out if working on the driveway, especially as you have a rear main to do, this way you just need to buy an engine crane.

OK. Thanks for that. I suppose if I didn't use it every day for work and it was a project,I'd have a go! Oh well!!

I think as it so hard for garages to find mechanics they are careful what work they take in, upset the mechs and they leave then they are in the deep poo, plus servicing aunty Mabels 2 yrs old small car is easy money, and they get to stay clean!

Might pay to join the series2forum and have an ask on there?

I can relate to that, one of my neighbours used to own a very tidy (never used off-road) 90 that needed a clutch.
Our local garage, normally up for anything, declined to touch it .. but at least they were up-front with him rather than take the job on & f..k it up, or keep feeding the owner with bull**** for weeks about why they 'hadn't got around to it/got it apart & having trouble getting the parts blah blah

As said, forum request for someone willing to take it on for cash-in-hand, with you providing the components (together with the responsibility for them) is your best bet.
