I have just done my clutch and borrowed a friends clutch alimented tool. His is a nice heavy machined piece of metal which is the correct size for my disco 200tdi. The reason I used his is because the 200tdi alignment tool I bought from ebay was a far smaller diameter than my spigot bush (and horrible cheap plastic).
Can someone please tell me where to get a suitable metal alignment tool (cost no issue within reason). All I can find online is the cheap plastic one I have which is the wrong size and alignment tools for other/later models.

Also please do not tell me to use a gearbox input shaft unless you have a spare input shaft you are willing to send to me as unfortunately I do not have a scrap gearbox laying around. Although I am hoping not to do the clutch for a couple of years I would like to have all the tools so I can when it is needed. I have most other specialist tools (timing etc) but cannot find a suitable clutch tool.

I've only ever used a 15mm socket on an extension bar and never had any issues

Mk1 eyeball works for my 200, done it a few times now.

There is no doubt old shaft is by far the best, if you can get one.

Remember those cheap coffee tables from 60's - 80's with round tapered screw in wooden legs, usually sold in Dovecot sale rooms (remember them) perfect clutch alignment tool, all I have ever used, cut the tapered leg down to the size of spigot and away you go, money was tight in those days so it was make do and mend but still use it now even though I now have LOADS OF MONEY, only kidding, I have a Defender so obviously very poor.

Most likely be a decent seller on ebay etc, especially as I think a lot of the older gear uses the same clutch and the gearboxes swap over.
This was what I was hoping for but I cannot seem to find one selling the older part anymore. They are all for the newer engines. Also most of them appear to by nylon rather than a proper metal tool. My friends originally came from eBay. I am looking for something like this:

If I cannot find one I may well take you up On that many thanks. I can measure the one I have to get the dimensions. But will have a look at what is available first.
If you can measure it anyway please, I have a 200tdi in my 90 so I can make one for that job when it comes along!
Thank you :)

Apologies, i need a new battery in my caliper so is currently only accurate to about 0.5mm. Will get a battery and give you more acutate values, but does look in line with @kevstar 's plumbers pipe.
The three diameters are: 22.5mm/23.5mm/25mm

Cheers, if you can give lengths to the three diameters that would also help. I will knock up a couple and if you want one you are more than welcome :)

I am away with work this week, but when I am home next weekend I will hopefully have a battery and can give you all of the measurements.
