Hi all
I have a land rover 90 which had a 3.5 V8 on a lt 85 gearbox and now has a 4.2. I do a bit of off roading so it does get a bit of ragging on steep slopes etc. The clutch and flywheel are off the 3.5,
The problem I am having is the last few times out the clutch has been smelling quite bad and today it started to slip. Left to cool down and drove home fine.
Looking at clutches I see there is clutch for 3.5 and 3.9/4.2 just wondered what the difference is and will a 4.2 clutch fit my 3.5 fly wheel?

Thanks Mick

was not all 4.2's auto??lse only..

just buy an uprated clutch plate and diaphram..dont go ceramic paddle style..kevlar or carbon fibre will do..

the stage 2 one is the one you want.

NOT ceramic..they rip the flywheel and diaphram apart..they dont slip like a normal clutch..ie no control.they are on/off..they judder if slipped..
i have owned and used..i hated it..no good except for rally/race use, ie what they designed for..

as you off roading. i assume you like clutch control?

no...read it...aggresive driving..non slipping clutch...ie on/off

really.you just need a decent "normal" clutch..but with a decent heavy duty pressure diaphram and a good (kevlar is fine) friction plate...its only a wee 4.2..not really that powerful..
i run 400hp though 9 1/2 kevlar plate with heavy pressure plate..its fine...so i thinks the stage 2 one you show will be more than adequate...

you will regret ceramic plate...rally race only!,

though auto is better for off rading anyway?

Cheers Zen I have gone for the Kevlar so hopefully will be okay. The clutch it was fine for most applications just when in sticky uphill situations woulda get a smell of burning clutch. The engine is standard and on lpg it has just been overhauled but would be lucky to get 200 hp so thinking it will be fine. Auto boxes are defiantly the way to go when off-roading I have had a classic 3.9 bob tailed in the early 90s when they weren't as popular and after that had a 4.2 supercharged Tomcat which was also auto. bought this manual 90 and it's like learning to drive again off-road totally different and a lot more difficult, auto is point and shoot :)

Yes it was fun sometimes wish I hadn't sold it :(
