hi ive just joined to forum

i have a 2001 freelander 1.8 s 3 door

when it is idling there is like a clunking noise coming from the engine
it is not there when the car is first started
and you can not hear it when driving. im confused
their is vibrations when you put your hand on the gear stick
from what i know its a 2wd probaly been converted to save the engine
im starting to think it is the bottom end but the power is still there (what there is of it lol) but surly if it was the bottom end it would make this during driving
im planning on giving it a service on tuesday new oil, oil fitler,plugs ect
can anyone give some advice cause im boggled lol thank you
