Hi guys, took my bobtailed rangy out for a test drive today after getting it up and running.
However there is clicky noise from up front.

Its not there all the time, but if i kick down (auto) there is a clicking noise. It almost sounds like a knocking crank, but if I rev the engine in neutral it sound sweet as a nut, so I think its actually coming more from the pass side of the front diff.

The front diff does click loudly on full lock.

I have checked the uj's on the prop,... no movement, but in park the prop does have 1/2 inch of movement back and forth and I can hear a bit of a click from in the transfur box when moving it by hand.

The truck has been off the road for 4 years at least before I got it so could it just be the front swivel housings are low or have no oil in them,

cheers Eddy

clicking on full lock suggests your cv joint is on its way out, can explode quite well when worn and leave you with no drive and a front swivel full of bits

if the cv goes you can get rear wheel drive by engaging the difflock.... personally id only do it to get home cos you dont know what all the bits are doing in the swivel housing.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

i'd advise very strongly against this even if home is only a short distance, even at a slow speed can you imagine what a front wheel locking solid can do if the broken bits cause a jam???

try explaining to a court why you ploughed into that group of kids at a bus stop when your wheel locked because you were knowingly trying to drive home with a broken cv using diff lock.... long spell in a small room with bars... or the same scenario injures your loved ones travelling with you... youd never forgive yourself

dramatic example maybe but would you want to risk it?? not all people are that mechanically minded and i for one would never want to feel my advise was misunderstood and a serious incident occured because somebodys short distance interpretation is 5 miles at 30mph compared to 50 metres at a crawl to get it back on your drive......

cheers steve

my front left cv went about 5.30 , dec 23rd last year, choice was either me and the mrs walk a mile up a country lane in the dark on an inch of ice , or engage diff lock and drive home in the warm at about 5 mile an hour. for me it was a no brainer.
