Hi - I finally bit the bullet and decided to replace the plug leads on my V8 disco 2 to try and cure a intermittent misfire (orignal leads 10 yrs old ) and as i had the plenum and TB off i thought i'd do the rocker gaskets at the same time...........I've taken one rocker cover off and it doesn't look good , the inside of the rocker cover and the tappets have a baked on coating of oil (it looks like their plastic coated), and the breather pipe is blocked with sludge, there's not to much of that around (not sure if that's good or bad) - so what do i do ? do i try and clean the crap out and if so how do i do that or do i put it back together and run a tin of engine flush through , then replace the oil & filter ?

yes, more so on the parts that are off the engine. I would try not to let too much crap get pushed in to the depths of the engine and change your oil after.
