Can I clean the cone-shaped air filters on my Range Rover classic v8 petrol engine without spraying them afterwards with a light coating of 2-stroke oil as I usually do?
Here in the backwoods today I would like to clean the cone-shaped air filters on my Range Rover classic (they are full of black crud and engine performance seems to be effected) but guess who forgot to bring the 2-stroke oil that I usually spray the filters with after cleaning. Not sure how important it is to spray the filters with 2-stroke oil when doing this?
Instead of 2-stroke oil I do have regular engine oil. Should I clean both air filters with petrol then lightly spray them with engine oil before putting the filters back on again (maybe this would do more harm than good?) or just clean and put the filters back on again with no oil until I get back to town later in the week when I can get hold of the 2 stroke oil I usually use for this?

I also have another question that I would like to ask. What does a wheel bearing problem sound and feel like while driving? I am hearing a repetitive uneven bump coming from somewhere near the rear passenger side wheel while driving that I know is not shocks, brakes or flat tyre and am trying to figure out what else it could be. Maybe my brain rattling around inside my skull but then I would expect the bumping to come from closer than it does :rofl:
 
Assuming you don't have a MAF any oil is OK for the filters as long as it's not too thick, I always used standard engine oil.
Wheel bearing is usually a rumbling sound. CV joints can give a shudder/bump as they break up.
 
I never clean mine in the bush... I have lost too many in the wife's bush already
