Slowly restoring my 79 Range Rover, can someone tell me why the mirrors are so tiny on such a big vehicle, I can barely see anything behind me, is it just a 70s thing, was there an after market replacement back in the day, I am trying to keep it original but these things are so small.

If they are wing mirrors yes bloody useless, i had them on my classic car, an option i use is a extra wide rear view one that clips on with one of them you dont need wing mirrors,

Have a look at this. Numbers & position of mirrors is covered by legislation & like most legislation has relevant dates. Not having the required mirrors is an MoT fail.

For legality just fit the old ones, you dont have to use them, on my classic car i removed the wing mirrors and fitted a quarter light one still cant see much in it but makes it legal the large curved rearview on mounted on the roll cage is excellent.
