I have a 95 soft dash classic which I’ve owned and maintained for 21 years. Apart from changing the airbags some time ago I have had no problem with its EAS. However, I returned to my car a while back to find it had lowered to its bump stops. When I started the car, I saw no initial lights on switches and nothing happened. With reference to the trouble shooting manual I tested all the fuses and ran through test AA, batt on pin 1, earth on pin 18, batt on pin 34, and 0-12v on pin 12 which would indicate a faulty ecu. The results were as indicated but I was surprised the batt at pin 34 was only 0.02v. Can anyone confirm this and if so, any suggestion as to where I can get the ecu tested?

Having read many posts, I have also checked the compressor - needed a new piston seal, the thermal switch, the air drier- new filters fitted, the delay relay, the compressor relay, the warning light relay, and the other connections to the ecu plug. Are there any more checks you think I could make before getting the ecu test?
 
Now there could be a couple of things causing your issue first is the inhibit switch under the drivers seat..
2nd is a broken wire in the eas ECU which can be common on an older system.
Height sensor fault is another!
If you want her mobile unplug the ECU controlling the suspension.

if you look on the amp plug under the sleeve all wires are numbered loop pins 1 and 8 to run the compresser for a couple of minutes to charge the system.

This fills the air tank which will then allow you to raise each corner, to do this connect the following together with a loop of wire:
1 left rear pins 26, 11, 8 & 1
2 left front pins 26, 10, 8 & 1
3 right rear pins 26, 28, 8 & 1
4 right front pins 26, 27, 8 & 1
(pin 26 enables air from pump)

To lower each corner:
5. Left rear pins 11,9 & 1
6. left front pins 10, 9 & 1
7 right rear pins 28, 9 & 1
8. Right front pins 27,9 & 1
(Pin 1 is power, pin 8 is air inlet solenoid, pin 9 is air exhaust solenoid)

If you want to for whatever reason to completely deflate the system connect pins 1, 8 and 9.

If you then leave the ECU unplugged the suspension will remain pumped up until you can have the system diagnosed properly.

This can be used as a temporary fix to cover ECU or sensor failures, remember do not plug in the ECU as she'll drop!

Also worth getting this, if you don't have it already!

Thankyou for your reply. The inhibit is ok and I have checked the earth goes on and off at pin 34 I have not opened the ecu so could check that. I 've measured the resistance of all height sensors and they are all approximately the same. I have used your method and inflated the airbags and it has remain up. The system has been tested at an independant land rover specialist and they tell me there are no stored faults and I have also checked it myself using the easunlock you suggest again this shows no faults. I can read calibrations and run pump but cannot unlock.. The only other thought I have had is the earth post resistance which might be an issue

The EAS System Info Document in the Technical Archive is worth reading. It explains all the differences & similarities between Classic & P38 EAS. Apart from the ECU inputs & valve block & compressor locations they are essentially the same.

Dropping to bump stops has two causes. 1) Leaks, 2) self-levelling on uneven parking locations, 3) Leaks & 4) Leeks !!
 
Is the driver pack on the valve block fixed or is it the detachable one?
The early driver pack had the coil wires potted into the driver pack, they were a right royal pain in the nether regions.

I have now checked inside the ecu which is amr3234 and found no wires, the components all seem to be connected to the circuit board. Tried the earth by connecting jump lead between earth post and battery. The car was inflated awhile back and has remains up. I have tested for leaks with soapy water around compressor, air dryer and valve block. The valve block would appear to be hard wired to the driver box and has pressure switch in it. Looking at parts list I think they are anr3757 and anr3157 and worked when I inflated the car. Does anyone know where I can get the ecu checked, and what the condition should be at pin 34 of the amp plug with ignition off and all doors closed?
 
No not as yet, l've refurbished the compressor, air dryer and most recently the valve block. The bags inflate manually and maintain there height for days. I've used the RSW software to examine the ECU which returns 0 in all the fault stores but gives no fault details. Using the programme I can read current calibrations and alter them, run the pump and inflate the car to standard height, depressurise both bags and the system. I've swapped the delay relay for a used alterative and a new ordinary relay. I managed to get a replacement ECU which I changed out but with no success. Both ECU's were then sent to Avilec who tested them, the result showed both indicated a fault with the front left height sensor which I have replaced. But still I have the same fault, the lights on the height switches do not flash when I start the car and the system does not operate. Sorry for the long post but this is baffling me.

Don’t apologise for length of post, you have been busy and it is worrying because who knows when any of us might get a similar issue? I was going to say that you are welcome to use my EAS kicker if we can arrange a meet but I don’t think it would do anything that you haven’t tried. Interesting that the ECU’s are recording a height sensor fault. I have been told that once ‘sat down’ it can be difficult to get the mechanical side of the height sensor right again but, given that you have replaced the sensor I guess you are on top of that.
If 2 ECU’s are showing the same fault then that implies that they are getting a fault signal either from the sensor or through the wiring to the sensor. Might it be worth running new wire from the plug to the sensor?
