hi can anybody tell me were I can get a good cheap service in Warwickshire or near Coventry for a range rover sport thanks

Never buy a champagne car with the expectation that marmite money will keep it running.

Diy is the way foward!

OR buy a vehicle that you can afford to run.
I said it a couple of months ago, the older L322 and L320 are now at a price they can be bought by anyone. The problem is just because they can afford the initial cost, they forget the price of upkeep.
Perhaps a lot of, new to the RR world , owners have never before encountered a vehicle where, the vehicle gets older, the price to buy gets lower but the parts and maintenance remain eye wateringly high. It can be a bit of a culture shock for some.

Totally agree thats why i'll avoid the l322 until my wallet is big enough, and even then i'd be dreading 'em!

Most are just blinded by the badge and don't seem to realise the eye watering maintenance costs.

I work as an independent garage, the work that is agreed is always done? Not all mechanics are crooks...:(
Not all are good either...
These machines are bloody complicated mechanically or electronically and unfortunately some owners don't find this out until they are given prices for certain works or exercises and believe they are possibly being ripped off.....
This lot on here know how complicated and difficult these cars are.
So... maybe some DIY with some pretty good guidance could save you a pound or two!!
What do you think?:)

I think there are good and bad garages and some are better on some makes. The question was reasonable: is there a garage near him you'd trust with your Landy? Around here there is an independent Landy guy but he's crap and a rip off merchant. However, I have heard good things about a garage up Chesham / Chartridge way and also a bloke over by Stokenchurch. @Saint.V8 recommended one he'd come across a few years back. The question is, is there one near Warwick? If he cannot come on a Landy loving forum and get better than do it yourself followed by a discussion slating all garages then what happens when one of us finally hits a fix we cannot do ourselves?

That said, might be worth repeating the post in the regional pages.

As you say, there are good independents. Maybe the OP should have asked for an honest reliable independent, because cheap and good rarely go together and with a modern Range Rover it's never cheap, way too complicated.

That's certainly true.

If there is ever a problem I cannot fix on my P38, it will be collected by the Case Auto for scrap.

Hi

I also think a decent diagnostics reader should always be factored into the purchase of a vehicle

Quite agree where some people buy one without thinking of basic things like how much will tyres costs , service items, etc

Couldn't agree more of how complicated these vehicles are , I’ve got a D3 and having a decent diagnostic reader it took me ages to finally find an airbag warning light , think it would be have near by impossible if I hadn’t had access to the live data ohms readings of all the airbags

Like many on here also do all my own work

May i ask as ur a professional mechanic what organisations should a customer look for when selecting a garage plse

Does the good garage scheme offer customers confidence plse

Many Thks

I have come across lots of issues I cannot fix myself. I think the issue was the OP asking for a cheap garage. Anyone working on the L322 or L320 and those coming after them, who are 'cheap' ,are very unlikely to be good. Those who are good, whilst not as expensive as the stealer, are still not cheap. There is also the, anyone buying one and wanting to do things on the cheap, should have walked on past. Nothing is cheap about these vehicles , apart from the price they can now be bought for. Even those who can do the work themselves, still have the silly money parts to buy, the hours needed to work on them and the cost to their sanity.
If it is a 'cheap' Range Rover someone is looking for, by all accounts, it would seem the only chance of that is the P38. The parts seem reasonable, most work can still be done by an ok amateur with a spanner and some guidance, and there are plenty out there to get spares off. On top of which most mechanics, in independent garages, don't have a sharp intake of breath and look of fear when you drive one in. Unlike the later models.
If nothing else, the replies may have helped the OP readjust his expectations on doing things on the cheap.

Good garage scheme what a joke, had a guy call trying to sign us up to one, he had no mechanical experience, the only thing he said was "if your not in the scheme you won't get the work", the fact that we were turning work away and were fully booked up for three weeks was lost on him.our work came from reputation and a lot was return business. He was shown the door, and told to get a proper job and stop trying to make money off the backs of people who do have one

That’s clears that up then, lol

Blimey what an arrogant @&@&#£# to tell u that , cheeky git

Apologises didn’t realise u also had a garage,, plus as they say takes years to get a good reputation and 5 x minutes to ruin

Plus how many times have u heard of a new member coming here and saying they’ve never worked on a vehicle then ask how to i fit new brakes , be afraid , very afraid

I bought my D3 as a project and wow has it been a steep learning curve, but me being a sad old git really enjoy working on it, apart from when I replaced the rear upper wishbone , what a job that was
