Petrol or diesel? From what I've seen, cheap petrol cat's don't pass the Mot. Cheap diesel cats will pass the Mot as cat function isn't actually tested.
I put one on a 106, it passed once the next year it failed so I bought another, after the pass I put the broke one back on and kept the good one for the following test
