Another day, another issue... The joys of owning a Land Rover.

2010, 3.0L, L320.

I have a charging system fault (not for the first time).

When this happened last, the alternator had gone, it them fried the battery in the mean time. So the car has had both a new alternator and a new battery in the last 6 months.

No the charging system fault is back, however this time it is intermittent. It flashes up and disappears just as quickly sometimes, other times it will come up and last for a few minutes before disappearing and every so often it lasts until I stop the engine and restart it.

It did this yesterday, stayed on until I was home 40 minutes later. I was driving in the dark so headlights on, when I got my multimeter out at home, the battery read as fully charged and with the engine on the voltage suggests the alternator is working (13.75v on idle) unfortunately I didn't have a spare pair of hands to give it a quick rev whilst measuring.

I have checked the wiring, no obvious signs of corrosion.

Could someone please give me some ideas of what could be causing this?

Pull the inner wing plastic from under the front wings and check the earth's there. Had one in last year that had a really bad earth under the wing. Once cleaned ecerything was charging and even the dead radio came back on;)
The one I did had a bad earth in the drivers side front.

Finally got round to having a deeper look at this. I've started with the earth strap... Doesn't look like it's in the best condition so just given it clean, once dry will reassemble and see how we go. Will keep you posted.
