hiya

i replaced my speakers with some pioneer ones, all i done was to remove the door panel lowered the window and took a measurement from the window glass to the metal of the door.

i imagine if you went into halfords and gave them the depth measurement they would be able to tell you what speakers will fit.

when i replaced mine in addition i measured the diameter of the speakers so that i knew they would fit the door aperature and just had to redrill the holes for fixing.

hope im not telling you how to suck eggs and that it may help you

Get some spacer rings made up or you might be able to get some from an ICE shop. Hertz are good I love them and have used them lots :)

Thanks for your advice guys.

Do I need special spacers or will universal ones do? I'm not really sure how they work ie if they fit the holes in the car or if I drill new holes to make it fit. Autoleads don't make spacers for the freelander :(

Or do the jbl's just fit without the need for spacers?

Also how easy or hard is this to do myself? I'm getting quoted £200 fitting charge from car audio security. I'm really just tempted to do it myself.

I just want decent sound in my car

If your going to make spacers, why not make some yourself? Get a small thin section of MDF or plywood and make your own using the speaker template. It's easy enough to do.
