Doing some routine maintenance and found these two chunks stuck to the magnet. Any ideas how important they are?

Looking at a spare diff on eBay, the two pieces look like they're the pin and holder on the top of the image.

There hasn't been any grinding or strange noise and diff looks to be working ok. Should I panic?

To be honest they are all pretty important bits in there mate!!
Certainly looks like that's what the bits are, think you'll need a replacement diff mate

roll pins locate diff carrier bearing adjuster, you could dot punch a suitable part of housing so that it swells in to adjuster,to jam the adjuster instead

I'll buy a new diff i think and fit it when i get a chance. Judging by the amount of muck that was built up on the two bits I think it must have happened a long time ago when the previous owner had it. Fingers crossed it doesnt explode before i replace it.

My girlfriends dad used to have a Praga V3S 6x6 truck (google if you like) and every time he used to fix anything he'd end up with a small bucket of parts he didn't put back :) ran for 20 odd years... hoping the locator pin on the Landy is 'surplus to requirements' :)

"Praga V3S 6x6 truck" Yes pretty common story about most things from that neck of the woods!
Our Soviet era T16m started after many years sitting in the barn, its still running great, none of the electrics work but doesnt really matter, still good for carting around 1/2 ton loads of logs!

Don't be surprised to find them intact in there - previous owner might've banjaxed a diff, and pulled it without draining the oil....
